Elena Ethel "Elly" Schlein is an Italian politician. Born in 1985, she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2014. She served for one term in Brussels and focused on topics of International Cooperation, the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, tax evasion, gender equality, and as the S&D rapporteur for the Dublin Regulation on migration policies. In 2017, Elly received the MEP Award for her commitment.

In the January 2020 regional elections, she led the list of Emilia-Romagna Coraggiosa and was elected to the Regional Legislative Assembly. Since February, Elly has been Vice-President of the Emilia-Romagna region. Her mandate includes social policies, the fight against inequalities, the green transition, plus European and international relations.
